Boys Will Be Boys
Apart from generating some great comments -- e.g. "I heard Tommy G, Hawk and Lance are leaving Powell Peralta to start their own brands too!" --, Eric Koston & new Nike SB pro Guy Mariano happen to be the talk of the town since leaving their old Girl over the weekend...
22 years into the company's history, this quote by Rick Howard, stated in an interview in the year 2000, seems particularly poignant:
"Part of the reason we started Girl was so pro skateboarders would have a future. Take Royal, for instance. When Guy Mariano and Rudy's Johnson legs don't work anymore, at least what they've done for skateboarding and their ideas can continue with something they can fall back on. All the Girl Distribution companies are based around people who have helped Girl get to where it is today."
Obviously, the big question is now: are they going to start something new/small on their own, or who's going to make the best offer? (rnk)
