Dredd 3D

Surprise: “Dredd 3D“ isn’t half bad. Slick, gleefully violent and with impressive production design it tells a simple enough story: In Mega City One’s “Preach Trees“ high-rise (Pop. 75.000) Dredd (Karl Urban) and rookie Judge Anderson (Olivia Thrilby) try to apprehend prostitute-turned-drug lord (lady?) Ma-Ma who rules this block. Numerous firefights and other rather extreme acts of violence ensue. If you’re into this kinda thing, you could do much worse. Bonus points for the skateboarding kids casually working their halfpipe on the 70th floor while Dredd and Anderson take out the bad guys by the dozen. (Souchak)
