Berlin Brew

While Germany is rightly known as a beer hotspot (bless the “Reinheitsgebot“!), the last decades saw some pretty serious changes in the national as well as local brewery scene. After mergers and acquisitions, almost all Berlin beers are made by the same company: West-Berlin stalwarts Schultheiss and Kindl, East-Berlin classic Berliner Pilsener and hipster favorite Sternburg Export are today all brewed in Weissensee. If you want to find out how they make that stuff you can drop by: There are guided tours available (5 Euro for the simple tour, around 12 Euro for the tour including sampling beers and some homemade-style lunch), just ring them up and let them know you’re coming (+49-30-9609 579). It’s German-only, but let’s face it: Beer’s universal. (Souchak)
